that blows GM. i can't believe all they can offer is 1 mb, what a gip.
i have a 3g cell. and use it as a hot spot sometimes. it works really well. i use it with sim cards for my internet in other countries. i had decent speeds with it in the boondocks of nicaragua in a boat.
    at home i use centurylink.

I pay for 1.5 mb DSL, but 1.0 mb is about as good as I ever get
    But if you have DSL
With DSL, it all depends on the line distance from your physical location to the provider's interface.

I've had every service available in my area, DSL stomps them all as i'm only about 300 yards from my provider's interface. When i get to the country place, my internet usage will probably diminish greatly and relative to the service available.

We have Time Warner cable in this area, to say they SUCK would be far more of a compliment than they deserve. Folks on this forum don't need to hear the language necessary to accurately describe their service and business model.

Can't imagine it being any worse than my local Comcast cable and why I chose the lesser of two evils........ I did find this in a search yesterday, but no clue how its internet service performance compares to my various neighbor's rather 'pi$$ poor' performing DISH TV services: Internet Packages by ZIP Code - Broadband High Speed Internet | Exede

That's more a comment on general bad service in your area. Almost all DSL providers use ADSL, and all being equal, it's pretty low. OTOH a brand new Ford Fiesta might outrun a badly trashed Ferrari.

One thing most don't think of...use a WIRE to hook to your modem.

Wi-Fi will only slow you down. Even 10 base wire is many times faster than Wi-Fi. And if you have 100 better yet.

It's true across the board here for all providers. They don't give you any more than what's necessary to keep ahead of the competition. And there isn't much competition.......................

I think when we say "New York" most people immediately think urban/metro.

Geographically, i'm in the center of it all which remains today pretty rural in most aspects. The closest "hub" for technology that's even close to up to date is Binghamton which is 35 miles away over anything but smooth terrain.

Heck, we didn't get touch tone dialing here until the early 80's.
